Welcome to Erica Francis' blog where the main focus is on Technology in Education within the subject area of English.Within this blog, techniques on how to utilize technology in the classroom will be highlighted. Gone are the days of "Chalk and Talk". The students are becoming techno savvy and teachers should be readily prepared to deal with such a techno savvy generation.
Using blogspot in English , the instructor can then electronically post to the students' advantage as some aspect of the lesson may not have been clear enough for some students or the instructor may not have had the time to fully explain a lesson during class. Blogspot then gives the students as well as the instructor time to catch up on lost time or the opportunity to review what needs to be fully explained.
Thus, through this medium, the instructor may:
- Post overviews of lessons in forms of powerpoint presentations
- with the overviews of the lessons posted there is also a forum where students may review especially for exam periods
- listening comprehensions may be done through the posting of videos from youtube
- remembering that the teaching of language is a second language, video conferencing may be done with other language classes in other schools so that the students may get exposure to the different creole and standard English
Erica: using the blog in this forum for English has endless possibilities. As a tool in our class the blog can also log participation and be used to old students accountable for their performance in the sharing process; keeping in mind that sharing in the blog equates to sharing in class.
ReplyDeleteThat is so entirely true Latoya and I strongly believe that using blog will definitely capture the students attention prompting them to perform more effectively. Thank you for your contribution!
ReplyDeleteI concur with Latoya, as the possibilities in English are endless. Another possibility is using the blog as a journal. This not only acts as a platform for students to air their views but it also helps the teacher in the steps that he or she should take in instruction. For example, if students did not grasp the previous concept (and we all know they like to shake their heads and say YES they understand when they really don't) .. through the blog and the comments they make, the teacher can then see exactly where and how to pick up the next lesson. This may include scrapping an already planned lesson or making minor changes.
ReplyDeleteI hope this help ... Nyacin
Remember that students sometimes learn best from each other; this blog will be great for sharing ideas and knowledge of their understanding of the presentations and videos used.
ReplyDeleteAll the best!
That is indeed true Nyacin! And your views will be taken seriously! I really like the idea of the journal. Thank you for your contribution.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Rhea! the idea of students learning from each other is a great initiative . Indeed some students, as Nyacin stated we all know that students will agree to understanding the material when they don't so the blog will indeed be a forum where the students learn from each other.
Thanks for the contribution! and Happy blogging
